“Uma criança que foi superprotegida pelos pais durante a infância se tornará extremamente indecisa quando crescer e não saberá estabelecer limites", afirmou ao podcast espanhol Lo que tú digas.
Para ele, a superproteção representa uma projeção dos medos do adulto nas crianças, e não uma forma de amor.
Por isso, as ações prejudicam o desenvolvimento emocional, impedem que as crianças tomem decisões por si mesmas e enviam uma mensagem implícita: “Você não é capaz”.

O resultado é o de adultos com baixa tolerância à frustração, dependentes emocionais, inseguros e com grande dificuldade de tomar decisões ou estabelecer limites pessoais.
Guerrero ainda diz que, muitas vezes, a insegurança dos pais impede os filhos de conhecer o mundo com ações simples da rotina, como pegar um copo de água, andar de bicicleta ou tomar o ônibus sozinho.
Essas dores e inseguranças dos pais podem vir de seus traumas ados. Mesmo assim, o jovem fica sufocado e despreparado para a vida. Superproteção gera ansiedade, e ansiedade paralisa. “As crianças não têm medo; elas são curiosas”.

Por outro lado, o especialista não acredita que deixar as crianças soltas à própria sorte seja a solução, mas que os pais acompanhem sem interferir a todo o momento. Erros, frustrações e repetições são essenciais para o aprendizado da criança.
“A primeira vez que você pega uma faca, você não acerta; a primeira vez que você joga boliche, você não acerta”, argumenta o diretor do Darwin Psychologists, centro especializado em gestão emocional localizado em Madri.
A validação das emoções da criança durante o fracasso é um ótimo caminho para incentivá-las novamente. Os pais ajudam a desenvolver resiliência em vez de poupá-los de momentos difíceis, o que é crucial para a vida adulta.

Um dos pilares defendidos por Guerrero é o amor incondicional. Amar os filhos simplesmente por quem eles são, sem qualquer condição baseada em desempenho ou conquistas, é fundamental para uma autoestima saudável.
