Com 450 quilômetros apenas de estradas de terra e muita natureza, a cidade de Pedra Bela, no interior de São Paulo, é o local mais rural do Estado.

Pertencente à região de Campinas, o município é cercado por área verde e tem uma pequena área urbana, composta por ruas estreitas.
O estilo de vida pacato, com um ritmo desacelerado, encanta os moradores, que podem viver tranquilamente até com as portas abertas durante o dia.
Com uma população estimada em 6,5 mil habitantes, segundo o Censo 2022, a cidade tem o menor grau de urbanização de todo o Estado.

Segundo a Fundação Seade, somente 27,1% da população de Pedra Bela mora na área urbana, ou seja, quase oito de cada 10 habitantes está presente na zona rural.
Para efeito de comparação, em 2010, seis dos 645 municípios paulistas tinham menos de 35% de urbanização. Considerando os dados do Censo 2022, do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), agora apenas Pedra Bela aparece com o índice inferior a 35%.
No Estado, ou de 88,6%, em 1980, para 97%, em 2022, sendo que a população urbana quase dobrou nesse período, totalizando 43,1 milhões de habitantes.

Na região de Campinas, depois de Pedra Bela, as cidades de Tuiuti, com 47,3%, e Pinhalzinho, com 60%, são os municípios com os menores graus de urbanização.
Uma cidade peruana também é destaque por sua área montanhosa e pouco urbana, Águas Calientes.
A cidade de Pedra Bela tem no turismo, rural e religioso, no cultivo de eucalipto e na produção de carvão vegetal suas principais atividades econômicas.

A Igreja Matriz costuma reunir a maior parte da população, além de sítios e chácaras espalhados pelo território de 158 quilômetros quadrados, para boas reuniões e conversas sobre a rotina.
Um dos pontos turísticos mais visitados é o alto da Pedra Bela, onde fica um santuário e uma tirolesa de 1.800 metros de extensão.
Para chegar ao topo, depois de ar pelo altar construído para Nossa Senhora da Pedra, que teria aparecido para um menino em 1930, tem-se 318 degraus para subir. Mas a vista lá de cima compensa o esforço; dá para ver a área urbana da cidade.

Esta pedra, inclusive, é o que dá o nome da cidade. O município ainda conta com diversas trilhas, outras pedras, riachos e cachoeiras, proporcionando um eio pela natureza, cheio de belezas e água gelada.
Os destaques ficam para a Cachoeira Boca da Mata, que tem uma queda d’água pequena, mas é em formato de piscina natural, e a pedra Maria Antonia.
Outro fator chamativo da cidade é que, em média, ela fica até um mês sem registrar nenhuma morte, o que proporciona uma sensação maior de segurança.
