Com o tamanho de uma pessoa, cerca de 63 kg, pernas longas, garras e olhos penetrantes, o Casuar é conhecido como o pássaro mais perigoso do mundo. Contudo, pesquisadores contestam esta teoria.

Comum na Oceania, especialmente em Queensland, na Austrália, os casuares costumam viver sozinhos, sendo que são os machos os responsáveis por cuidar dos filhotes.
E são, exatamente os filhotes, os responsáveis pela má fama do animal, que não voa, mas pode correr até 50 quilômetros por hora.
Segundo uma reportagem publicada pela CNN Travel dos Estados Unidos, os casuares tendem a ficar agressivos somente quando se sentem ameaçados, ou acreditam que os filhotes estão em perigo.

Além disso, eles não são carnívoros, e não atacam as pessoas porque as vem como presas. Na verdade, eles são frugívoros, ou seja, são grandes comedores de frutas.
O pesquisador ouvido pela CNN, Peter Rowles, diz que se alguém se deparar com um casuar deve colocar as mãos para trás e tentar ser o mais desinteressante possível.
Ao visitar a região, também é prudente evitar alugar carros pretos ou azuis-escuros. Isso porque os pássaros, ao verem seu próprio reflexo, entendem que estão vendo outro animal, ou seja, um competidor, e podem atacar. O mesmo conselho vale para espelhos e janelas refletivas, que devem ser cobertos.
