São Paulo está na fase de testes para a implementação de um caminhão de coleta de lixo que é movido a gás e utiliza uma tecnologia de coleta lateral. O veículo é o Scania P 280 6×2, desenvolvido pela empresa BUSA, sediada em Guará, interior paulista.

O caminhão traz um sistema inovador que elimina a necessidade de garis para carregar manualmente os resíduos. Por meio de um braço mecânico, o veículo consegue coletar recipientes diretamente das calçadas e os despeja dentro do compactador.

Segundo a BUSA, São Paulo seria a primeira cidade da América Latina a operar este tipo de caminhão, uma iniciativa que deve influenciar outros municípios brasileiros. O projeto-piloto conta com sete caminhões.

O contrato de concessão prevê mais de 150 unidades ao longo dos próximos anos, com expansão gradual da frota de coletores laterais e instalação de milhares de containers automatizados. Veja também como 58 mil toneladas de lixo são lançadas diariamente nos rios de São Paulo.

Na Europa, muitos caminhões de coleta de lixo já são movidos a gás, utilizando biometano (gás produzido a partir da decomposição de resíduos) e gás natural.

Esta é uma alternativa aos veículos que utilizam o diesel, para reduzir as emissões de gases poluentes e contribuir para a descarbonização do setor de gestão de resíduos.
